Sand Castles
Overview
Sand Castles is a seaside residential compound of three cottages grouped around a landscaped courtyard in southeastern New Providence. The design draws on the client's memories of multi-generational family compounds in the southern family islands, reinterpreting that tradition with a contemporary sensibility. The project was recognized with an award during the IBA's Architects Week in 1995.

Design Intent
The cottages are arranged in a triangular pod formation to encourage communal living for an extended family, each pairing an open-plan main level with a sleeping loft tucked into a steeply pitched roof. Crisp white walls, navy-blue shutters and trim, shingled roofs with skylights, and lush garden courtyards give the compound a relaxed, distinctly Bahamian seaside character.
