Hoopers Bay Retreat
Overview
Hoopers Bay Retreat is a private residence perched on a high rocky promontory roughly 30 feet above Elizabeth Harbour, overlooking George Town Harbour, Stocking Island, and the Exuma Sound. TAS Architecture shaped multi-level living and sleeping areas that cascade down the sloping terrain toward the water, terminating at a boathouse and dock — all anchored by a distinctive miniature lighthouse that houses the home's central staircase.
Program
- —Multi-level main residence
- —Lighthouse staircase tower
- —Four bedrooms
- —Guest cottage
- —Pool and sun terraces
- —Boathouse and dock
- —Xeriscaped gardens
Design Intent
A nautical influence runs throughout, from the lighthouse stair tower to the home's stepped, view-oriented massing. Soft seafoam volumes, deep verandas, and walls of glazing open the interiors to the dramatic harbour vista, while a vaulted great room, light-filled kitchen, and pool terrace make the most of the elevated site and its spectacular water views.
